
Magneti Marelli is an Italian research, development and component manufacturer for the automotive industry. Initially manufactured electrical car parts. Today, the company based in Corbetta, Italy includes 86 production plants, 12 research and development centers and 26 application centers in 19 countries, with 43,000 employees. Historic Magneti Marelli products are preserved and exhibited at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan.Magneti Marelli was founded in 1919 as a joint venture between Fiat and Ercole Marelli (1891–1993), an Italian electricity company. The company originally manufactured ignition coils for the automotive and aerospace industries. From 1920 they began to manufacture, among other things, batteries. Since 2019, Magneti Marelli has been dealing with intelligent systems for active and passive vehicle safety with powertrains and batteries.Business lines include car lighting systems, body control systems, engine control systems, electronic instrument assemblies, telematics systems and computers, suspension systems and components, exhaust systems and motorsport, where Magneti Marelli develops specific electronic systems for Formula 1, Grand Prix motorcycle races and for the World Rally Championship. In fact, since 2016, the electronic control unit (electronic control unit) of all MotoGP teams has been supplied by Magneti Marelli.
